New Year New You – How To Make Resolutions That Stick

The start of a new year brings many things, a chance to kick those bad habits and make a goal to start a fresh. It may be a resolution to hit the gym more this year, to wear more colour, to add more skirts into your wardrobe or to create a much-need work/life balance. Whatever it is, New Year resolutions are hard, they require motivation, dedication and persistence. But never fear, if you’re like us and have a long list of things you want to change or one particular thing that is weighing on your mind – follow our tips below on how to bring in the New Year with the best YOU possible.

Creating a new start is all about picking goals that you actually care about and want to become reality:

Seems obvious doesn’t it? But much of the time we feel pressured to do something, that maybe we actually don’t see as important to us. This means, choose something you know in your heart you want to change. Our tips? You know it’s real when you just can’t stop thinking about it.

Make an action plan:

It’s so easy to write our list of New Year’s resolutions, but we have to create a realistic step-by-step action plan on how this is going to happen. For example, if you want to head to the gym more this year, look up classes and opening hours, grab your diary and schedule it into your daily plan. Make this time non-negotiable. If you’re eager to learn to cook, why not set aside some time on a Sunday afternoon before the craziness of the week begins to experiment with different foods – this good also double over as pre-cooked lunches or dinners, winner! Even buying new active wear to motive yourself to get into a healthy routine.

Change your environment:

This step is totally simple and easily effective. Want to lose weight? Start by getting rid of all the unhealthy foods in your pantry. Want to exercise in the morning? Leave your phone alarm next to your gym clothes so you actually have to get out of bed to switch it off and the first thing you’ll see is your gym clothes!

Keep your resolutions visible:

We like to use that time at the start of every year to create all our goals and resolutions, but it’s easy to forget about the things that matter to us in the busyness of everyday life. Create a list and keep it at your desk or on your phone, so that you are constantly reminded about your goals for the year. That way when 2019 starts to ring in, you can be proud of your achievements!
